Before your procedure, we sign a written agreement that specifies exactly what we are contracted to deliver. The result you read here is the result we put into your contract.
Once we send you a written quote, that figure does not change — regardless of how the day unfolds.
Whether your procedure takes thirty minutes or three hours, the fee Specialty Anaesthesia receives is the same. We are not paid by the hour.
The amount Specialty Anaesthesia receives is fixed. Your Medicare and private health fund rebates are paid directly to you — different funds reimburse different amounts, but our fee does not move with them.
Regardless of any prolongation, additional clinical events, or changes that arise in theatre, nothing extra will be invoiced to you afterwards.
Reliability is a choice. Two high-end pieces of equipment travel with our anaesthesiologists to every list — for airway management and for guided technique. They are the practice's own equipment, and every one of our anaesthesiologists is trained and experienced in their use.
Specialty Anaesthesia's own high-end video laryngoscope, brought to every patient requiring general anaesthesia with intubation. It allows the most successful, controlled entry of the breathing tube into the airway — with minimal risk of damage to the teeth, tongue, cheeks, and lips.
Patients can request a copy of the video recording of their laryngoscopy as a keepsake. Please let us know in advance if you would like this.

Ultrasound guidance allows for more consistent placement of local anaesthetic — and of any indwelling catheter left in place for continuing pain relief after the procedure. It is also used for gastric assessment to evaluate aspiration risk.

Every patient agreement includes an express rectification commitment, written into your contract before your procedure. The examples below are concrete: if these things happen, this is what we do — at no additional charge to you.
Specific guaranteesWe attend and replace or revise it at no charge to you. The return visit is included in your fee.
For example, a catheter for ongoing pain relief after a knee replacement. Replaced at no charge, regardless of cause within the hospital.
If a cannula we sited dislodges, blocks, or stops working during your inpatient care, we replace or re-site it at no charge.
If your airway is removed in recovery and needs to go back in, we attend and re-insert it at no charge.
While you remain in the hospital after leaving recovery, any further sedation or medication we provide is included.
And for any other defect in our anaesthesia care, we provide further consultation and clinical management at no additional charge — underwritten by professional indemnity insurance held in each of our anaesthesiologists' personal names.

Dr David Reiner is an Australian-trained specialist anaesthetist with international experience. He graduated medical school in 2003 and completed his anaesthesia training at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. He has practised across the ACT and NSW — in public and private hospitals — since 2011, and has administered anaesthesia to more than twenty thousand patients.
During a three-year period as Quality and Safety Officer for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in the ACT, Dr Reiner activated the WEBAIRS platform in the territory — the formal Adverse Incident Reporting System for anaesthesia in Australia. He is a visiting academic at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University.
Specialty Anaesthesia exists because Dr Reiner believes anaesthesia should be delivered to a defined result, quoted in advance, and accountable in writing. Every patient who engages this practice receives a single fixed quote before their procedure, a clearly defined clinical result, and an express commitment to make right any defect in the care provided.
While the majority of procedures at Specialty Anaesthesia are performed by Dr Reiner personally, the practice also engages other qualified specialist anaesthetists who step in when Dr Reiner is unavailable. Whichever anaesthesiologist is assigned to your procedure will contact you personally before attending — you will always know who is caring for you, and each of our anaesthesiologists works to the same fixed-fee, defined-result standard set out in your patient agreement.
Outside the practice, Dr Reiner enjoys playing sports. He is married with four children.
